BASL LIT® SLAM!

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BASL LIT® SLAM!?

Simple. It’s a platform.

A creative space for artists, poets, actors, Black Deaf storytellers, BASL users, and writers to express themselves, explore their artistry, and share their talents in front of a live audience. It's about creativity, self-expression, storytelling, and gibing people the space to showcase what they do.

The BASL LIT® SLAM! Poetry Slam & Actor’s Showcase provides an opportunity for acting students, ASL students, and emerging talent to showcase their abilities, gain valuable live performance experience, build confidence, and continue developing their craft.

Beyond the stage, BASL LIT® SLAM! also serves as an introduction to Jade Films Acting School (JFAS), creating an opportunity to attract prospective students interested in developing their acting skills, building confidence, and strengthening their performance abilities through our classes.

Are you also a poet or a writer?

We welcome submissions of original written material, including monologues, ASLized works, and poetry, with a performance length of 3–5 minutes.

This is a space to express your art, experiment with your craft, support fellow performers, get inspired, have a good time, and grow as an actor and artist.

Our goal is to create an environment where performers can develop their skills, gain experience, discover their creative potential, and become better at what they do.

All actors and performers are welcome to participate, whether Deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing. American Sign Language (ASL), Black American Sign Language (BASL), spoken English, and mixed-mode performances are welcome.

Keep your eyes out for our upcoming events!

Come prepared to perform. Come ready to grow. Most importantly, come ready to showcase your talent!
